Uruvela Kassapa and the Tebhatika Jatila

Posted on February 20, 2026February 20, 2026 by Dharma Documentaries
An animated retelling of the story of the Buddha’s early conversions of fire worshippers at Gayā.

Uruvela Kassapa and the Tebhatika Jatila

This is the story of Uruvela Kassapa and his brothers, their introduction to the Buddha, his conversion of the brothers and their 1,000 followers, and the teaching of the third sermon about the world being on fire with passion, hatred and delusion (Ādittapariyāyasutta).

It is a joint effort by disciples of Venerable Ācariya Thoon Kippapañño, who taught out of Wat San Francisco, and it a remarkably faithful animated account of the story, well-illustrated, narrated and presented by a talented team. I will show more of their efforts in the coming weeks, which cover great disciples, Jātaka stories and more.
