Angulimāla, The Story of a Serial Murderer

The story of Angulimāla, his birth, studies, assignment, conversion, ordination and end.

Angulimala, The Story of a Serial Murderer

All of these animated retellings of Buddhist Stories by the talented team around Wat San Francisco are excellent, but this one telling the life story of Angulimāla is exceptionally well-done and told.

The story starts with his inauspicious birth, the king’s initial fright and decision to allow the boy to live; his growing up and excellence in studies, the jealousy of his peers which leads to the teacher requesting 1,000 thumbs.

It ends with the meeting with the Buddha, his understanding the Dhamma teachings, becoming a monk and eventually an Arahat. This did not stop karmic retribution overtaking him though.

Along the way we also learn about his sympathy for the woman undergoing a difficult birth and her relief when Angulimāla made a saccakiriya, an utterance of truth, which is still used in Asia today.
