Padmasambhava

Posted on July 10, 2026June 27, 2026 by Dharma Documentaries
A retelling of the conversion of Tibet along with the integration of its old gods.

Padmasambhava

This is another of the excellent videos from Buddha’s Wisdom, this time telling the story of Guru Rinpoche, otherwise known as Padamasambhava, and his role in the conversion of Tibet.

What is interesting about this video—besides the very fine and engaging presentation—is that it illustrates a very profound method of the Buddhist missionaries.

Unlike Islam and Abrahamic religions generally, Buddhism always adapted to the environment it found itself in, and rather than dismissing the old gods, converted them and turned them into protectors of the new religion.

The case history in Tibet is a very good example, though it has happened in many other places also, because it shows that very malicious and even deadly gods can be won over and made to serve the greater good.

The film is very well made, as is all of Buddha Wisdom’s work, with a concise presentation, good narration, and use of AI technolgies to make the story more attractive and visually convincing.
