This is a series of talks given by the Canadian monk Ajahn Punnadhammo in which he speaks about Early Buddhist History. The talks, which are very well presented, have many maps and other graphics, which warrants their inclusion in this collection.
In the last of these videos Ajahn talks about the history of Buddhism in Thailand, covering the migration of the Thais in the 13th century, the establishment of Theravāda as the state religion, the wars with the Burmese, the different dynasties, and the reforms of the religion under the Chakri dynasty.
Ajahn makes a mistake in this last video. When talking about Sri Lanka he speaks of the two main lineages as being the Mahāvihāra and the Amaravatī, whereas what he meant for the last was the Abhayagiri. All the others have been rich in information, and well documented, and told in an interesting manner, and the series overall was an excellent introduction to Buddhist History, and not just Early Buddhist History. The one thing I missed was a Bibliography which people could have used to follow up on the various subjects.
If you are interested in Ajahn and his work, a short biography can be found here. He also has a youtube channel with many talks and presentations. He lives in the Arrow River Forest Hermitage in Northern Ontario.
