This is a series of talks given by the Canadian monk Ajahn Punnadhammo in which he speaks about Early Buddhist History. The talks, which are very well presented, have many maps and other graphics, which warrants their inclusion in this collection.
In the 7th of these videos Ajahn talks about Buddhism in Burma, or Myanmar. He traces the early and legendary history, then the missionary activities in Suvaṇṇabhūmi following King Asoka’s holding of the 3rd council, the various forms of the religion that were found in the early Middle Ages, and the decisive reforms after the Burmese conquered the Mon.
We then hear about the ups and downs of the Sāsana in the high Middle Ages, with reinportations of the lineage from Sri Lanka, and giving lineages back to Sri Lanka later, before we see the councils that took place and the rise of the vipassanā movements in the 19th century.
If you are interested in Ajahn and his work, a short biography can be found here. He also has a youtube channel with many talks and presentations. He lives in the Arrow River Forest Hermitage in Northern Ontario.
