These are the first two parts of a fifteen part series which will trace the history of Buddhism, its introduction into Tibet and especially the life of Guru Rinpoche, Padmasambhava. The films are being made under the patronage of H H Pema Norbu Rinpoche with digital remastering by Ven. Lama Dondrup Dorje.
The films feature some of the most innovative presentation I have seen in a long time, and include theatre, story-telling, CGI reconstructions and enhanced vocals, which give the whole project a magical aura, well suited for its part-legendary, part-historical narrative. I would really love to see some of the Jātakas treated in such an imaginative way also.
The first chapter below traces the final days of the Buddha and giving the duty of propagating the Dharma in the Land of Snow (Tibet) to Chenrezig, before passing away. Chenrezig is then seen descending over Tibet and preparing for his mission.
The second chapter follows the story of the saintly king of Oddiyana, Indrabodhi, who, seeing the suffering of his people, decided to give away all his wealth and more for their benefit. We also see him set sail for the land of the nāgas so as to obtain the wish-fulfilling gem.
I will post more chapters as they are posted online in the coming months.
