How a Prince Became the Buddha

A modern retelling of the Buddha story with illustrations from the Asian Art Museum.

How a Prince Became the Buddha

This is an interesting short video retelling the Buddha story with illustrations drawn mainly from the collection of sculptures and thangkas in the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco.

I have previously shown a film on The Life of the Buddha which featured traditional storytellers bringing the story back to life. Here the storyteller is Leta Bushyhead who makes a good attempt at retelling the story in very short form, and in a way that shows what could be done in the medium, if more resources were given to it.

In fact in traditional countries like Sri Lanka, Thailand and Cambodia we still find these traditional forms of story telling, but they are virtually unrecorded, at least in any accessible manner for people outside those countries, and they are now dying out.
