This is the first part of a series of short films about Buddhism and especially its artistic and cultural contributions in India and surrounding countries by the renowned Indian cultural historian Benoy H. Behl, whose films I have featured many times on this website.
In this opening episode Behl places Gautama Buddha is his historical background in the Indian sub-continent, and then narrates the traditional story of the Buddha’s life before continuing with an account of his influence.
The film is illustrated with photographs and video from major archaeological sites in India, which will be visited in more depth in the coming episodes. The episode gives a good, accurate and concise introduction to its subject.
