India’ and Indonesia’s Shared Ancient and Modern Cultural Heritage

Posted on May 10, 2013October 23, 2013 by Dharma Documentaries
This is a wonderful documentary looking at the close cross-cultural links between India and Indonesia.

Aneka Budaya

From ancient times India and Indonesia have been in contact with other by sea travel and trade, and this film weaves back and forth between the two cultures showing the places of contact and influence on both cultures, including such things as Textiles, Dance, Initiation Rites, Martial Arts and other customs.

The film is impressionistic in composition, often moving between the two cultures quite seamlessly, which serves to show how interwoven they have become, and creates a flowing, dance like presentation in itself.

In Indonesia the focus is on Java, and of course Bali, which still retains its Hindu culture; and in India we visit especially Orissa (ancient Kalinga), Kerala and Manipur.
