An overview of the development of Indian history from ancient to pre-modern times.

Ancient India From the Indus Valley Civilisation to Mughal Imperialism

This is an excellent overview of Indian history from its beginnings in the Indus Valley Civilisation up and till the Mughal Emperors in pre-modern times.

In a short span the film tackles what are indeed complex movements of peoples and cultures, and succeeds in giving a decent guide to its subject.

The film covers the Indus Valley Civilisation, the Mauryan Empire, the Gupta Empire, the Rajputs and the Mughul Empires, and as well as looking at the cultural artifacts produced during these periods, also shows the geopolitical changes that accompanied these changes in dynasty.

The film also discusses the reason for the success of Buddhist and sramana culture, and the integration of that into brahminical culture, and then its eventual disappearance from its homeland.
