This is another excellent film from the Madras Documentary Group, whom I have featured here before. One of the most comprehensive of their films, this one focuses on the various sites in northern India associated with the life of the Buddha.
The film could just as well have been called ‘A Life of the Buddha’ as it effectively tells the life story, as well as showing the places he is known to have stayed.
The film is told is several ways: a professional storyteller, narration, photographs, video and attractive (though sometimes inaccurate) illustrations all play their part.
Along the way the film visits the following centres: Lumbini, Kapilavastu, Rajgir, Bodhgaya, Sarnath, Sravasti, Nalanda, Vaisali, Kesaria and Kushinagar. The story is fairly comprehensive in its short span and gives some background to the sites where the Buddha lived.
