Eating our way to Extinction

Posted on April 7, 2023April 7, 2023 by Dharma Documentaries
This film explains how we are currently heading for disaster as a species, and the ways we can change that.

Eating our way to Extinction

I haven’t been posting so many documentaries on ecological issues lately as it seems so many of the environmental movements have been highjacked, and now supply greenwashing endorsements to what are unsustainable ways of living. It has become an industry.

The basic facts remain though: the easiest and biggest and most positive impact we can have on the environment is to change our eating habits to plant-based solutions. The amount of damage that factory farming is doing is literally catastrophic.

One thing I learned new from this film is just how bad fish farming is. I knew dredging our oceans was one sure way to empty them, and not just of edible fish, but also of many other living things that get caught up in the nets, from coral to inedible marine life.

But now it seems 80% of the fish people eat comes from fish farms, and they suffer from all the usual problems factory farming produces: diseases, which is then treated by chemicals, and also leaves a toxic footprint on the ocean floor.

The other parts of the film look at the damage to the environment, loss of aboriginal lands, climate change, refugees fleeing lack of resources, loss of biodiversity, and this leads up to the fact that we really cannot continue in this way.

This film has very high production standards, including great photography and graphics, and is packed full of information, and takes the standard format of talking to scientists and other experts in the field to find out how we got here, and how we can avoid disaster.
