This is the fourth of the videos on the Jātaka and Avadāna stories at Borobudur by Walid Haddad. These scenes are different from the earlier ones on Level 1, as the reliefs are much wider than those were. Unfortunately many of these reliefs remain unidentified, and we know only a few of the stories. (Part One; Part Two; Part Three).
The reliefs are in a generally bad state of repair, with many blocks, and some whole sections, missing. Nevertheless Walid does a great job of getting us to look closer at the reliefs again, and points out many details that I think an uninformed visitor would miss.
If you are going to Borobudur I highly recommend watching the videos first so that you can get the most out of your visit. But even if you are not going, from the video you can learn in short form the gist of the story, and see how the master craftsmen at Borobudur were able to envision the scenes.
if the video does not appear on the page, try reloading the page; and if that doesn’t work, leave a comment so I can update the page (the comment is not published)
