This is a short introduction to the World Heritage site of the Seokguram Grotto built in 751 in Gyeongju, during the Unified Silla Dynasty, made as part of the 100 Icons of Korean Culture series.
The tour is conducted by a Canadian Catholic priest, Bernand Senagal, who is a student of Buddhism and a Professor of Religious Studies at Korea’s Sogang University.
The film takes up through the long mountain walk to the grotto, and we see something of the construction of the monument, which is a marvel of engineering.
We also hear why the place has been so important to the priest in his own religious practice, and meet some of the visitors to the site, and find out why it was built.
