I think most of us will have seen film of Tibetan monks in courtyards engaged in debate, it is very dramatic, and film of these events seem to be present in nearly every film on Tibetan Buddhism.
But possibly, like me, you have no idea exactly how these debates are conducted, what are the rules, and what sorts of topics are allowable.
This short documentary is made up of two parts, first a short and concise introduction to the subject, and this is followed by a couple of model debates in English so we are able to follow the procedure.
The film is made by Claudio Curciotti, and features Vens. Gache, Legtsok, and Lekden from the Sera International Mahayana Institute in south India.
