Life of Tibetan Buddhist Nuns at Dolma Ling Nunnery

Posted on October 5, 2018October 5, 2018 by Dharma Documentaries
A look at the life of the nuns in this educational institute near Dharamasala in India.

Life of Tibetan Buddhist nuns at Dolma Ling Nunnery

The Dolma Ling Nunnery was established by HH the Dalai Lama in 2005, as a way of providing first class education for Tibetan ordained nuns, and is the first institute dedicated to education across the sectarian differences in Tibetan Buddhism.

This film was made in 2009, and was the first in an intended series of films about the nunnery made by the Institute itself, though I have so far been unable to find any follow up films.

The documentary looks at the founding and building of the nunnery, the daily life of the nuns, the education schedule, and the work they themselves are doing to support the foundation. I am unsure how many nuns were there at the time of the filming, it looks to be around 180. In 2018 there are 240.

If this project inspires you, you can read more about it at the Tibetan Nuns Project, where it is also possible to make donations to support the nuns’ education.
