In Search of Nirvana

Posted on September 2, 2022September 2, 2022 by Dharma Documentaries
A film looking at the profound journey in Vipassanā and understanding of the true nature of the world.

In Search of Nirvana

John F Preston is now a healer and acupuncturist living on Cortes Island, Canada, where some of the material for this film was shot. He previously spent around 5 years as a Theravāda monk in SE Asia, where he met many teachers who helped him along his path.

This beautifully shot and quite profound film traces some of his own journey and the people he met, and also hears from current teachers and practitioners who are on the path to realisation. The whole thing is lovingly put together, and gives a deep overview not only of the joys, but also of the difficulties of one’s journey in saṁsāra.

Drawing on interviews with the German artist-monk Ven Sumedha, Ven Pemasiri (one of the greatest living masters in Sri Lanka), U Jagara and Ven Dīpaṅkara, both renowned teachers from the Pa Auk tradition, and others we hear about the deep meditation teachings of the Buddha and the place they lead to.
