The Biography of Sakyamuni Buddha

Posted on March 3, 2017May 10, 2023 by Dharma Documentaries
A film retelling the traditional life of the Buddha from his birth till his parinirvana, with episodes from the lives of the disciples (Mandarin with Chinese and English subtitles).

The Biography of Siddhartha

This is 2015 film from Hong Kong directed by Li Guohui which relates the traditional story of the Buddha’s birth, childhood, awakening and teaching career up and till his parinirvฤแน‡a, with Lu Liangwei in the title role.

The story includes many episodes familiar from the story, though occasionally they are retold in a somewhat altered form, and include episodes from the lives of the disciples also, with Devadatta’s story taking the most time.

The main characters are all played by Chinese actors and actresses, with only some extras played by Indians themselves, and the few teachings that are included all come from the Mahayana tradition.
