This is the second in a series of films about China’s Culutural Heritage, and this time it features the Tibetan stories in the epic retellings abouit King Gesar, which constitute the longest epic by far, out-sizing the combined length of the next ten epic stories known.
The film follows a shaman, Tutoin Dagyai, who not only recites the story, but has found many relics associated with the King in his meditation. He is tested by a researcher Norbu Wangdain, but apparently manages to find more relics, even under difficult circumstances.
The film also looks at the historicity of the legend, and follows a number of recitors, and learns how they collected their material, which seems to be not by learning from a master, but through revelation. Together these stories are classified as Intangible Cultural Assets.
