Luang Prabang, Laos (Expoza)

Posted on February 18, 2019March 24, 2019 by Dharma Documentaries
A look around the ancient Loatian city of Luang Prabang and its Palace and Temples.

Luang Prabang, Laos

This is from a series of films by Global Television shot all over world, giving well photographed introductions to various places, of which we will be focusing on the ones of interest to Buddhists.

The films are quite light introductions to their subjects, mainly good photography, well chosen soundtracks, and a reasonable, but sometimes inaccurate, narration giving a cultural and historical introduction to its subject.

This week we visit the ancient Laos city of Luang Prabang. Most of the film is taken up with looking at the truly amazing Buddhist temples that populate the city, and that are adorned with wonderful frescos, reliefs, sculptures and architecture. We also see the Royal Palace and the local streets and houses.

Luang Prabang used to be the capital city until it was moved to Vientiane in the 16th century. Its period of dominance in the life of the country gave rise to many illustrious temples being built there, and since 1995 it is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
