Fall and Winter (Deep Ecology)

Posted on August 16, 2019December 26, 2021 by Dharma Documentaries
A film looking at the problems of modern civilisation and the solutions being implemented.

Fall and Winter

This film from 2012 looks at the problems that our technological society has compounded and the effects that this is having on nature, and therefore ultimately on human society also.

It consists mainly of a series of interviews with some distinguished thinkers from various fields, including primitivism, environmental studies, psychology and ecology to paint a picture of how we got to the place we are now in, and how we can proceed into the future.

It starts with a statement at the United Nations by the Hopi leader Thomas Banyacya, and many times returns to the same speech throughout the video taking up themes he presented in his talk.

The film hears from many other speakers along the way who are critical of the way the present system functions, especially the destructive effects it is having on the environment, and how that can be rectified.

It also looks at what were current topics as the film was being made like the 2010 BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, the occupy Wall Street movement and so on. It tries to present not only the problems, but to show some of the solutions, and how they can, and are, being implemented.
