Chiang Mai, Thailand (Expoza)

Posted on December 5, 2016December 5, 2016 by Dharma Documentaries
A visit to the historical capital of Lanna in NW Thailand, to learn about its cultural heritage, including its temples.

Chiang Mai, Thailand

This is from a series of films by Global Television shot all over world, giving well photographed introductions to various places, of which we will be focusing on the ones of interest to Buddhists.

The films are quite light introductions to their subjects, mainly good photography, well chosen soundtracks, and a reasonable, but sometimes inaccurate, narration giving a cultural and historical introduction to its subject.

This week the focus is on Chiang Mai, which has of course, its own very distinctive culture. We first see the wall and the moat around the city, and learn something about the history of the place. This also takes us to its most famous temple, Wat Doi Suthep.

The film then alternates with visits to some of the cultural places around Chiang Mai, like the zoo, cultural village, etc. with visits to some of its important temples, like Wat Phra Singh, Wat Buakkhrok Luang, Wat Suan Dok, etc. It spends a bit too long at the elephant park for my liking, but still a good introduction to its subject.
