This is the fourth in the series of films I have compiled from the series published under the rubric of Amazing Places on Our Planet and made by Milosh Kitchovitch. Previously I showed a selection of films from China, Japan and Myanmar.
The films are made in high, and super-high definition format, and consist of videos taken at various heritage spots around the country, with accompanying and appropriate music.
They were made sometime before the 2015 earthquakes, and capture the sites before those devastating events destroyed many of the buildings.
The first two films are set in Kathmandu and the surrounding valley, where we see various Buddhist and Hindu temples and pilgrimage spots, including Swayambhunath and Boudhanath Stupas, the Hindu Pashupatinath and Changu Narayan Temples, as well as some of the famous Royal Durbars.
The third film visits Patan, also known as Lalitpur, and visits similar heritage sites there, and in the last film we travel to Bhaktapur. The thing that struck me in these films is the incredibly detailed wood carvings adorning all the buildings in these places.
The way Milosh makes the films is also much different from the idealised and abstracted visions that we normally see, as he includes the local people and the tourists who are normally seen milling around the sites, and that also gives them a certain charm of their own.
