Gyang Tse, Tibet (Expoza)

Posted on January 20, 2020January 20, 2020 by Dharma Documentaries
A look at the old fortress town of Gyang Tse (Gyantse) and the wonderful Palcho Monastery.

Gyang Tse, Tibet

This is from a series of films by Global Television shot all over world, giving well photographed introductions to various places, of which we will be focusing on the ones of interest to Buddhists.

The films are quite light introductions to their subjects, mainly good photography, well chosen soundtracks, and a reasonable, but sometimes inaccurate, narration giving a cultural and historical introduction to its subject.

This week’s episode looks at the huge fortress (Dzong), and the Palcho Monastery, which is inside it, set in the magnificent landscape where the city of Gyang Tse (Gyantse) is situated in the southern regions of Tibet.

The fort itself, and the surrounding walls, are impressive indeed, but of course it is the monastery that catches our attention, with its beautiful paintings and statues. Much of this is in the Kumbum (100,000 images), which is a multi-storied building.
