Children of the Tsunami

This is a moving film from the BBC following the thoughts and reflections of a group of children affected by the tsunami that hit north-east Japan in 2011, causing extensive destruction to property and a nuclear crisis at Fukushima, where a 12 mile exclusion zone was created to remove people from radiation danger.

The kids seem very aware of the issues that have affected them, with moving testimonies from children who lost their friends, the uncertainty of being able to return to their homes, the fear of radiation and the inability of the Government to come up with satisfactory prospects, leaving everyone, including kids in a kind of limbo they are only too well aware of.

The film also occasionally takes a look at things from the parents point-of-view as they struggle to come to terms with the loss of children, the mistakes of peers, the uncertain future, and so on.

The film illustrates the testimonies with photos and film of the wreckage that still, in some places, was present even when the film was made some nine months after the event.
