This is the second of four films made for Korean TV about the remote Buddhist kingdom of Bhutan in the eastern Himalayas. The full title of the series is Bhutan, In Search of a Celestial Kingdom, and is hosted by “History Traveler” Kwon Ki-bong.
In this episode Kwon goes in search of rare animals in remote places, and comes across black langurs living of the mountainsides and eating salt, which they need for its mineral content, and other, brown, monkeys, who are quite mischeivous and a bit of a pest.
He visits a local fort-monastery, a Dzong, and sees how it functions both as a local government office, and as a temple, with monks living there, and officials for land registry, etc. No separation of church and state here!
Later he climbs to 4,000+ metres and sees yaks grazing on the hillside, and learns something about them, and their owners, and how they are maintained.
Once again it is a really enjoyable romp through the wildernesses in Bhutan, and we learn something of the people and their ways, and get to see the wonderful landscapes they live in too.
