Posted on December 24, 2021December 24, 2021 by Dharma Documentaries
The sixth episode in this series looking at Taoism examines Taoist influence on Chinese aesthetics.

The Heart of Taoism 6, A Great Beauty Without Form

The influence of Taoism on Chinese aesthetics has been profound, and some of the greatest Chinese writers, painters, musicians and calligraphers were guided by its principles.

This episode looks at some of these figures, including the writings of Chuang Tzu, the philosophy of the Seven Sages of the Bamboo Garden, the Four Melodies of Xi Kang on the guqin, and the flowing alligraphy of Wang Xi Zhi.

We see from this how the philosophy of Taoism has permeated Chinese culture, and driven its artistic expression of nearly every turn over the long course of history, and continues to do so today.
