Taoism has long been connected with health practices, being based, as it is, on balance, natural living and avoidance of stress and ambition. That is the positive side of the Taoist outlook. On the negative side has been its connection with alchemy and the quest for physical immortality.
This episode looks at these phenomena, and how they have played out – and are still playing out – in the Taoist context in China. This has led to Taoist medicine, and practices like Qi Gong and Tai Qi, which seek to keep the body and mind healthy and harmonious.
This episode also talks about the need to balance Yin and Yang, and the foundation of these teachings in Lao Tze and other great writers of the Taoist movement.
