This is a film about Ladakh, the environmental crisis which is overcoming it, and the people trying to do something about it. Global warming is having a terrible effect on glaciers across the world, and in Ladakh it is leading to water shortages, which affect people and agriculture.
A number of people are trying to do something to mitigate the problem: Deskit Angmo is a young lawyer, trained in Kolkata, who returned to Ladakh and has been trying to restrict the damage done by the popularity of motocross in the region.
Sonam Wangchuk was concerned by the amount of schoolchildren in Ladakh who were failing in the traditional three “R”s: Reading, wRiting and aRithmatic, and started a school based on the three “H”s: Head, Hand and Heart. He has also been working on scaling up the Ice Stupa to preserve water when abundant and release it when scarce.
Nicholas Tournadre is a French scholar who has been working for 40 years on the languages of the Tibetan plateau, including Ladakhi and Bonti. He is most concerned with the possible loss of dialects in an increasingly globalised world.
This long film follows these and more as they face various challenges in one of the most challenging environments in the world, surrounded by magnificent landscapes that are under pressure from a changing world.
