On the steppes of Mongolia sits the Erdene Zuu Monastery, which is the central Buddhist monastery in Mongolia. Most of this documentary is concerned with this site, and interviews its inhabitants, from novices to Abbots.
The site used to contain 64 temples, but nearly all were destroyed during communist times. Only recently has the main temple been reopened, and it now has attracted nearly 100 monks who train and work here.
Later we also visit Gandan Temple in the capital, Ulan Bator, and see how they have resurrected traditional education and festivals, including music and ritual dancing.
