This is a short record of the construction of the Thousand Hand and Thousand Eye Guanyin statue in Yuandao, northern Taiwan. It is scheduled to be completed in 2020, but is already well along in construction.
The statue is a 56-metre high bronze, which seems to have been made in China and is being assembled in situ in Taiwan. The Yuandao temple follows the Huayan teaching of interpenetration and relatedness.
In the film we have lots of good subtitles explaining the various features, and a lot of drone footage, so we can see the assembly as it is taking place from close up.
The statue is seated atop a 5-story Dharma Hall, which contains many floors being used for Dharma activities and education.
According to their website, great care has been taken, not only about the safety factors, given that Taiwan is on the Ring of Fire, but also about the surrounding ecology.
