In the Footsteps of the Buddha

Posted on December 12, 2025December 12, 2025 by Dharma Documentaries
A look at the mian sites connected with the Buddha in Nepal and India.

In the Footsteps of the Buddha

This is a film by French Television walking in the footsteps of the Buddha, from his birth in Lumbini, his Awakening in Bodhgaya, his first Teaching in Sarnath and his Passing in Kushinagar. The film also visits the important teaching sites of Shravasti and Rajgir.

The film is well-made, having interviews with monks, nuns and lay people who are following in the Buddha’s footsteps today in India. We also see all the sites and learn about the places the Buddha stayed and taught in.

Unfortunately, there are some inaccuracies in the film, which is always the case when made by non-specialists, but it gives a fairly good idea of the Buddha’s life and includes some of his teachings. The film is narrated in French, but there are subtitles in many languages.
