A Day in the Life of Anandagiri Forest Monastery

Posted on May 29, 2026May 7, 2026 by Dharma Documentaries
A non-narrative look at the life in a quiet Forest Monastery in Thailand.

A Day in the Life of Anandagiri Forest Monastery

The Anandagiri Forest Monastery is a Theravada Buddhist monastery in Phetchabun, Northern Thailand, established in 2010 by the Australian monk Ajahn Achalo. Situated in Thung Samo, Khao Kho District, it serves as a training ground in the Ajahn Chah forest tradition, featuring a large meditation hall and focusing on meditation, monastic discipline, and forest life.

This short film follows the monastery through a day, beginning with the lighting of candles before the Buddha statue, and then preperations for, and walking on, piṇḍapāta in the nearby villages. We then see various duties performed by the monastic community to do with maintenance.

At what appears to be lunchtime villagers gather to give dāna, receive blessings and a chance to talk to Ajahn. The film then shows chanting at the end of the day, before it finishes. The settings looks very peaceful, and their website is called—and emphasises—Peace Beyond Suffering.
