Footprints of War, Nature under Fire

This film looks at the long term degradation of the environment owing to wars.

Footprints of War, Nature under Fire

We don’t think much about how the costs of war linger on in destroyed eco-systems and poisoned environments throughout the world. This film focuses on this, tracing the damage done to the environment by war.

The film looks closely at historical examples from Verdun and the Somme in WWI, to the dumping of toxic weapons following WWII, to the terrible chemical warfare waged by the Americans against the population of Vietnam, the toxic effects of nuclear waste in Soviet Russia, and the USA’s use of depleted uranium in Iraq.

We also know how much war is costing humanity, as we see the enourmous amount of money drained from tax funds into the Military Industrial Complex for wars around the world, which could better go to feed and house people in need.

We are recently seeing the deliberate destruction of the environment in the Gaza war, where the whole Gaza Strip is being rendered unfit for human habitation, with the destruction of farmland and infrastructure, such as homes, hospitals, schools and places of worship, so this is a problem which is very relevant today.
