The second film in this series looks at the rise of the Aryans and the Vedic civilisation. After the demise of the Harappan civilisation it seems the people abandoned their cities and were reabsorbed back into the agricultural peoples they had arose from.
The Aryans seems to have migrated from the Russian steppes, and gradually entered what is now India from the North-West. As far as the DNA evidence goes it seems that mainly those who migrated were males, and they took wives from the local population.
Although the Aryans brought their gods and scriptures with them, this synthesis of populations is what gave rise to the Vedic language, and eventually to Classical Sanskrit, and the mixed culture that is first Brahminism, and then the Hinduism of today.
The episode also speaks briefly of the rise of the heterodox religions, like Buddhism and Jainism, and the rise of the Prakrit languages, including Pali.
