Radioactive Waste, A Nuclear Nightmare

Posted on September 1, 2023September 1, 2023 by Dharma Documentaries
A look at the dangers involved in the waste materials from nuclear energy, and the ejection of dangerous materials into the sea, and on land.

Radioactive Waste, A Nuclear Nightmare

This film from 2009 focuses on the main problem with nuclear energy, which is what to do with the radioactive waste product? The problem has never been solved, and no one indeed is even suggesting a solution.

This leaves us with a lot of radioactive waste every year, and which is accumulating all round the world, and especially in the oceans which have for decades been used as a dumping ground for this dangerous material.

Currently there are major disagreements about whether the contaminated water which has been used at Fukushima should be released into the ocean. This film was made before the incident at Fukushima, but shows how spent fuel has been ejected directly into the ocean at numerous sites around the world, and particularly at La Hague in France.

The film also looks at major incidents in the USSR, which were covered up at the time, but which have left rivers and land contaminated, and which has got into the food chain, causing excessive deaths from cancer amongst the population.

As the half life for many of this waste products is in the 100,000s years, and we cannot predict any stability across such long periods of time it seems to me we must stop producing waste we cannot dispose of, and that is intrinsically dangerous, and unfound in nature in such high quantities.
