Local Futures, Beyond the Monoculture

Posted on May 10, 2019May 10, 2019 by Dharma Documentaries
A look at the work of the International Society for Ecology and Culture in Ladakh and beyond.

Local Futures, Beyond the Monoculture

Although this is a comparatively old film, and much has changed since its making it is still worthwhile watching to understand the movement away from globalisation and back to localisation as a way to rebalance the economy.

The film is made by Local Futures, and comes as a follow up to Ancient Futures, which I showed in this collection many years ago. The principal mover behind the project was Helena Norberg-Hodge, who lived for 20+ years in Ladakh, and became an activist for alternative ways of living based on ancient wisdom.

The film itself shows how some of the projects started by the International Society for Ecology and Culture how been very influential both in Ladakh and abroad, espeically their films, books and other educational resources. The group is still active at present, and you can learn more from their website.
