Many people are making literally millions of dollars in the stolen antiquities market. For the countries they are stolen from though, they are worth more than dollars as they are the heritage of the country.
The film today is a follow up to last week’s Angkor for Sale documentary. This one begins with a catalogue at Sotherby’s New York putting up a superb Khmer statue for sale at an asking price of $3 million. There is only one problem, it is evidently stolen.
This film looks at the history and reasons behind the looting of a country’s treasures, and traces the sometimes devious routes they take before entering the markets, and ending up in western museums and private collections.
