Mystic Tibet with Lama Zopa Rinpoche

This is a documentary record by Christina Lundberg of a pilgrimage undertaken to Tibet by Lama Zopa Rinpoche and 50+ of his students from all round the world in or around 2006.

The film follows their journey starting when they cross the land border between Nepal and Tibet, and then travel on to Milarepa’s Cave near Nyalam, Shigatse, Lhasa, Tsurphu, Tolung Dechen, Reting and the Penpo Valley.

The film includes video and photographs of all these famous sites and, because Rinpoche was with them, they also occasionally got access to treasures that are not normally on display.

The Chinese authorities were non too pleased when the group reached Lhasa and decided to attach a driver and guard to the team to keep track of their movements, and also to prevent teachings.

This didn’t really hinder them as much as was probably intended and everywhere they went Rinpoche was sought out for blessings and much needed teachings.

And indeed the thing that comes across so strongly is how the Tibetan people have not lost their faith in their masters, even after 50 years of religious and cultural repression.

The film also includes interviews with some of the pilgrims who attended the trip and they speak about what was important for them and how they felt about this once-in-a-lifetime pilgrimage.

Everywhere they go Rinpoche is seen encouraging the pilgrims and others along the way to do more and more good deeds with the highest intentions in mind, and he himself is seen to be tireless in practising his own teaching.
