Another video by Walid Haddad on temples in Vietnam, this one focuses on Giac Lam Pagoda, which was founded in 1744, which has undergone various expansions and transformations over the centuries since then.
The video itself not only acts as a guide to the temple, but is also an introduction to Vietnamese iconography, and the various sculpted characters seen in the temples, giving a succinct summary of their place in Mahayana – and specifically Vietnamese – Buddhism.
In this respect we are introduced to the various Buddhas, Bodhisattvas and gods that are seen around the temple, which is particularly interesting when we get to the ten palaces of the Kings of Hell, and their place in the cosmology of Buddhism.
