This is a very interessting film by Harald Friedl which follows surveyors for the Department of National Happines in Bhutan as they go around asking 1,000-word questionairres trying to find out if people are happy!
People are—not surprisingly—a little sceptical about the project, but most seem to comply with the excessive questioning once they get started.
Along the way we see the villagers and get to learn a lot about their lives, aspirations and hopes for the future. We also learn much about the people’s everyday lives, and what indeed makes them happy, or feel content.
The film provides a small window into life in Bhutan and the people who live there, some of whom are very happy, of course, and some who are not.
