This is a film about the formation of Israel, from its Zionist beginnings, and the displacement of Palestians, culminating in 1948, which is remembered in very different ways depending on the background of the person involved. Zionists like to present it as settling an empty land, which was theirs by historical right. Palestinians who had lived on the land for millennium, of course, did not agree.
The state of Israel was imposed upon the Palestinians by the newly formed United Nations, even though they had had nothing to do with the repression and murder of the Jewish people during WWII. One of the most astonishing things this film shows is that those who had been subjected to theft, murder and degradation as soon as they got off the boats should impose exactly the same on the peoples of the land they migrated to.
If you want to understand the background to what is happening in the Middle East even now, nearly 80 years later, you would do well to watch this documentary. A good thing about this film is that it allows participants on both sides to speak for themselves, and show how they were experiencing these crucial events at the dawn of the formation of the state.
