Stories from Cambodia is another is the series Somewhere on Earth produced by French TV, this time looking at diverse lives in Cambodia.
The first segment is concerned with Samorn, who lives with his family on the great lake of Tonle Sap, south west of Siem Reap. Their whole life is spent on the waters, where he fishes, farms and also acts as a ranger, ensuring there are no poachers and counting and monitoring the wildlife in the conservation park.
The second segment starts in Battamburg, in the north of Cambodia, where Mann is training in ancient temple ruins for his life as a circus performer. Many in his family are engaged in this work, and his elder brother even works with the internationally famous Circe de Soleil. The eldest brother is now training younger kids, mainly street kids, in the circus arts.
The last part of this week’s films is about the Englishman Paul Ferber, his wife and their five children, living on Koh Ach Seh, part of a string of islands off the coast of Cambodia. Paul is the leader of Marine Conservation Cambodia, an NGO dedicated to preserving the islands’ ecosystem from the ravishes of trawling, and other illegal and destructive fishing.
