This is the last part of a series of short films about Buddhism and especially its artistic and cultural contributions in India and surrounding countries by the renowned Indian cultural historian Benoy H. Behl, whose films I have featured many times on this website.
In the final episode we get an overview of the whole series and trace the development of Buddhism and its art from the earliest times, right through to the emergence of the Vajrayāna, and the spread of Buddhism throughout Asia.
As I have said before I do not always agree with Behl’s analysis of the tradition, which lays too much emphasis on the supposed “eternal” and on the role of deities in Buddhism, but still he manages to bring an inspiring perspective to the art which will be attractive to a great many people, and for that we have to thank him.
