There have been varying theories about the development of Chinese art and civilisation, and this film examines some of the latest ideas based on DNA sampling and comparative art analysis that shows contact between East and West, and specifically Europe and China, has been established for 1000s of years.
During that time the cultural influences have of course been two-way, and the discovery of mummies in the early 21st century in the Taklamakan desert, some of which may date back 4,000 years, has shown that European type peoples were crossing this desert even millennia before.
This film speaks to some of the scientists at the forefront of these discoveries, and what they mean for our understanding of inter-culturality and civilisational development in China, and looks at some of the outstanding examples of these enquiries.
