Dan Cozort, Buddhist Economics 1

Posted on December 13, 2024December 18, 2024 by Dharma Documentaries
A talk looking at the problems of our present day economic system and its very great woes.

Dan Cozort, Buddhist Economics 1

Buddhist economics is a topic close to my heart and something I have thought about for a long time, as evidently the present system is a catastrophe, especially in the East and Buddhist countries where I have lived for the past 30+ years.

Śrī Laṅkā, for instance, is one of the richest countries in the world in so many ways, with a wealth of crops, fish in abundance, several distinct climates, and is even littered with jewels, but it is broke according to the present system, and must cut back on all social welfare schemes to meet requirements for a loan destined to keep the country in eternal debt.

This is the first of four talks by Dan Cozort in which he discusses what a Buddhist Economics would look like, though this first talk is more about what are the current problems facing humanity, why the system fails us, and what sorts of mental poisons underlie the reified economics which sees to it that a few (countries, individuals) are rich, and many more are poor.
