This week the expedition, which has been traveling along the southern trade routes, doubles back and explores the area along the northern route. There is nothing of artistic or archeological interest along the way, but we do see some of the various nomadic tribes and their way of life in these fertile lands.
The episode looks at the importance of horses for the people, both now and in history, their agricultural markets, and salt gathering in the mountains, and they also visit a marriage ceremony which they come across accidentally. I was left wondering how much of this life survives some 30 years on.
