Buddhist temples and architecture in general are based on geometrical patterns and are decidedly not random. This is especially true of the more important temples, built by kings or wealthy individuals.
This film looks at three temples in Myanmar: the octagonal Shwedagon in Yangon; and two temples in Bagan, one a pentagon, and the other a square. Along the way we also meet with individuals working to maintain these temples, whether as volunteers, glass-makers, or archeologists.
The story is beautifully filmed, making extensive use of drones to be able to show more clearly the floor plan of the various temples. There is also commentary, mainly by Myanmarese themselves, from which we get an idea of how important these temples are in the life of the people.
