Nepal with Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche

Posted on May 27, 2016June 30, 2016 by Dharma Documentaries
A film looking at various projects in Nepal, featuring an extended interview with Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche.

Nepal with Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche

This is an interesting film about various Buddhist projects that were being developed in Nepal, probably made in the late 80s or early 90s.

The film first looks at a monk’s school in the shadow of the Boudhanath Stupa in central Kathmandu, and follows some of the young monk’s through their daily routine, including being taught in dance forms.

We next visit a nunnery, evidently outside Kathmandu and in the mountains somewhere, and see the large community of nuns, who were under the guidance of the Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche (it may be that the first project is under his guidance also).

The main part of the film includes extracts from an interview with the famous master, who passed on in 1996, and at the end of the film there is a full-length interview of around half an hour tagged on.

The sound editing is very poor on the film, and the balance between the narrator and the background noises makes it a little hard to follow what is going on at times. At other times though there is no narration to follow just beautiful Tibetan singing and scenes from life in Nepal.
