The Children of the Buddha

Posted on March 10, 2023March 10, 2023 by Dharma Documentaries
Kalu Rinpoche at the age of six, attending the Dalai Lama led Kālacakra initiation in Bodhgayā, with his friend Joost.

The Children of the Buddha

A record of the Kālacakra event in 1996, with the rewly reincarnated Kalu Rinpoche (around 6 years old), his French friend Joost (10) and their meeting near the end of the film with the Dalai Lama.

The film was originally in French and has been overdubbed into English. It features Kalu Rinpoche and a French family who knew the previous Rinpoche, and are now devotees of the reincarnated Tulku.

One of the family is the 10 year Joost, who was a favourite of the previous Rinpoche, and is now near-peer friends with the Tulku, and others include his sister and mother. The scene is the 1996 Kālacakra initiation in Bodhgayā, where the Dalai Lama is giving extensive teachings.

The children, together with their mother attend the festival, and explore a little around town, and spend time with Rinpoche, leading to them all meeting with the Dalai Lama towards the end of the film.
